Head, Open Jobs Data team, Creative Economy & Data Analytics
Jyldyz Djumalieva is the Head of Open Jobs Data, working in the Creative Economy & Data Analytics team.
Jyldyz is leading on a stream of research with a focus on helping workers navigate changing labour markets more confidently. Specifically, Open Jobs Data (OJD) team leverages big data and data science to contribute to the development of innovative and actionable labour market solutions.
As part of research funded by the Economic Statistics Centre of Excellence, Jyldyz has created the first data-driven classification of skills in the UK, that is publicly available. The classification was created by using a dataset of 41 million UK online job adverts and by applying machine learning methods, such as Natural Language Processing, document clustering, and distributed word representations. OJD team is currently working on growing and improving the skills classification. The vision is to build an open and live map of skills, occupations and qualifications. Such a map could be used to provide timely, data-driven and detailed guidance to workers. It can also lead to improved measures of skill mismatch.
Prior to joining Nesta, Jyldyz worked on projects involving text mining, social media analysis and graph databases at the Bank of England. Jyldyz has an MSc in Big Data Analytics from the Sheffield Hallam University and an MSc in Organisational Psychology from the University of Hartford, CT.
