There is strong evidence that social background and origins are connected with poor representation in institutions of higher education. The University recognizes the disadvantages caused by socially created inequalities like a student’s gender, their family’s caste, religion, occupation, income, education and so on. As part of its commitment to equity and justice, the University admission process attempts to address these inequalities. Points are assigned to various aspects of the socio- economic background of every applicant, which will be added up, to arrive at an overall socio- economic ‘disadvantage score’ and this score is added to the score secured by them in the entrance test and interview.

The information on socio-economic backgrounds, caste, religion etc., is sought in the application form, only for purposes of estimating the score and compensating for social disadvantage. This information is kept confidential by the University administration office.

ACADEMIC SUPPORT
  • Mentoring

One of the primary objectives of the in-program mentorship, which happens during the student’s time at the university, is to provide multi-dimensional mutual interaction spaces for students, faculty and other members of the university. The program intends to provide inspiration to all the members involved and prepare them better for life at the university. Preparing better for life at the university is just a shorthand expression for the ability to positively respond to the various kinds of challenges that university life offers and the ability to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life at the university for oneself and others. Every student is closely linked with one or more faculty mentors who periodically meet and guide him/her through their academic and personal journey at the university.

PERSONAL WELL BEING

The weekly movie screenings of the Celluloid Club and the Annual Faculty-Student Cricket Match organized by the Sports Club have already become university traditions!

All these activities are actively supported by faculty mentors.
