Simon deputises for the Chief Executive, liaising with his fellow Executives, our Trustee Board, external stakeholders and suppliers to help ensure that our organisation runs smoothly.
Simon leads both the operational teams (including technology, operations and venue hire) and oversees the content teams (including communications, skills and explorations) as well as working on strategy and the day-to-day issues of the multi million pound business which is Nesta.
He has been a Nesta exec for almost seven years - a lifetime in Nesta's fast moving culture - and holds a lot of corporate memory as well as practical experience which he tries to use to mentor individuals and units throughout the business.
Prior to Nesta, he held senior positions at the Institute of Fundraising, Home Office, Royal College of Midwives and the National Trust. He also worked in charity and local government communications and as a journalist in the commercial sector.
Whilst at the Home Office he led one of the most comprehensive media engagement and public affairs programmes in the UK and had responsibility for strategic communications input to three Government sponsored arm's length bodies.
As a passionate communicator Simon has 30 years experience in marketing and public relations and is a multiple professional award winner in communications leadership roles.
