Call for Papers

  1. The National Economic Association (NEA) and the American Society of Hispanic Economists (ASHE) announce and invite paper submissions for their sixth annual Freedom and Justicesummer conference to be held August 8-10th2019 in Albuquerque New Mexico.  This year’s conference theme is Freedom and Justice: Community and Nation Building.  The conference is co-sponsored by the University of New Mexico and the Washington Center for Equitable Growth. The Freedom and Justice Conference is an interdisciplinary social justice conference that attracts a small group of scholars who are dedicated to discussing pressing economic problems and their solutions for communities of color.

We are especially interested in papers/panel submissions that address the following topics, including those that have an intersectional analysis: Sovereignty; reparations; (Re)Building Communities; 400 Years Commemoration; Indigeneity, Indigenization, Cultural Knowledge and Practices; Community Organizing and Sustainability; Precarious Employment and Communities of Color; Cooperative Economics; Health Disparities; Puerto Rican crises; Casino Economies; Economics of Policing Communities of Color; Race and Access to Public and Publicly-Provided Goods; Tribal Communities, Infrastructure, and Resource Extraction

We invite scholars to explore these and other questions at our interdisciplinary summer conference.  Presenters are expected to contribute to conference discussions for the full two days (August 9-10). 

Abstracts of approximately 150 words with title of presentation should be sent as Word attachments to nbanks@bucknell.edu. Conference presentations must be no longer than 15 minutes.  The abstract submission deadline is April 20, 2019.  Abstract submissions should be in the following format:

We invite submissions for individual papers as well as for panels.  Presenters will be notified of status by April 30th.  All presenters and attendees must register for the conference in order to attend.

The Conference registration fee is $125 or $50 for graduate students and participants from the host institution.  The conference registration and hotel information will be on-line and available once submissions have been accepted.
