About

The European Institute

The European Institute is UCL's hub for research, collaboration and information on Europe and the European Union. We exist to promote academic excellence in the study of Europe at UCL, working to provide a leading forum for intellectual debate and acting as liaison to EU and UK policy-making communities within the University. We offer a diverse programme of public events, provide expert analysis and commentary for media outlets and policymakers, and help coordinate and develop networks of research.

We are a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence.

Research

We act as a hub to facilitate collaborative research between different Departments engaged in the study of European issues. Over 250 academic staff are engaged in scholarship on European and EU related subjects at UCL, in such diverse subjects as law, history, economics, politics, philosophy, architecture, languages, health, and cultural studies. The Departments involved are recognised globally as leaders in their respective fields, making UCL a dynamic and innovative place for conducting research. In the latest Research Excellence Framework (2014) UCL was rated among the top institutions in the UK by research quality.

Study

UCL offers a range of degree programmes and courses on Europe and the European Union, and is a world-leader in many of the related disciplines. The European Institute does not offer programmes of study. These are administered directly by the academic departments. Whether your interests lie in the fields of politics, economics, history, languages, law, literature or cultural studies, UCL offers a range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral degrees with a European focus.
