Areas of Responsibility:
- Maintain a flexible and easily accessible database of all publicly available economic data pertaining to the membership and programs of NMPF and the US Dairy Export Council (USDEC), including production, consumption, stocks, prices, and trade data.
- Maintain a set of basic economic analytical instruments, ranging from simple spreadsheets to basic economic models, to respond to basic requests and frequently asked questions from staff and members of NMPF, USDEC, related dairy organizations and the media.
- Update the economic information used to produce regular market update and outlook reports and otherwise assist senior staff economists with the production of selected publications.
- Assist senior staff economists with conducting complex economic analyses of major domestic and international policy issues, updating the online World Dairy Trade Trends trade data resource, ongoing forecasting of key dairy industry prices, evaluating export assistance requests associated with NMPF’s CWT program, updating and expanding NMPF’s state and national dairy industry economic impact multiplier analysis resource, and other large-scale analysis, evaluation and data resources as needed.
- Provide research, analytical support and other input, as needed, to selected staff working teams charged with addressing issues of particular interest to the NMPF and USDEC memberships and the dairy industry overall. Participate in various administrative projects related to the general activities and operations of the organizations.
- Support and offer economic and analytical insight USDEC’s global dairy forecasts, market outlooks, and other market intelligence research projects.
- Pull specific data from established sources to support member inquiries and internal creation of analytical tools.
Required Skill Set:
- Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics (preferred); dairy emphasis and work experience are a plus.
- Computer literacy, including strong quantitative skills and proven ability to use current statistical and econometric techniques.
- Ability to marshal evidence and to assimilate, structure and analyze qualitative and quantitative data.
- Excellent report writing skills, backed by thorough, methodical research skills combined with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to effectively communicate complex results (in both verbal and written formats) to a wide audience, especially those not familiar with the underlying theoretical issues.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including client relationship management and teamworking skills.
